Enthalten sind mehr als 160.000 Literaturangaben zur Polar- und Gletscherforschung, zurückgehend bis auf die Anfänge des 17. Jahrhunderts. Neben Monographien, Serien, und Forschungsberichten sind Artikel aus mehr als 1.000 Fachzeitschriften nachgewiesen.

SPRILIB ist in drei Datenbanken untergliedert, in denen unabhängig voneinander gesucht werden kann:
