Corpus Avesticum Berolinense: An Edition of the Zoroastrian Rituals in the Avestan Language

The CAB (Corpus Avesticum Berolinense) project, carried out at the Institute of Iranian Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin, is the first attempt to edit the entire Avestan Zoroastrian text corpus in its ritual context.
\nThe editorial principles applied in this new edition of the Avestan ritual texts are based on the preliminary work of the „Avestan Digital Archive“ (ADA) manuscript archive, as well as on a revision of the reconstruction of the transmission process of the Avesta.
\nThe aim is to give users a complete overview of the entire editing process, from the manuscripts to the critical and annotated edition.
\nVarious tools are available to the users for this purpose: \n

a database of all manuscripts containing Zoroastrian rituals in Avestan;\n
a ceremony-generator that allows the user to generate any Zoroastrian liturgical text in Avestan with its ritual instructions in Pahlavi, and to select the contextual parameters (date and time of day, divinity to which the ceremony is addressed);\n
a stanza-analyser for each piece of text with critical ritual comments and meta-ritual information;\n
as well as a text-critical apparatus created with the tool of the partner project „Textual Communities“.\n

\nIn addition, the project’s website offers full or partial transliterations of some 60 manuscripts, a link to images in the „Avestan Digital Archive“ and give access to a digital version of Bartholomaes „Old Iranian Dictionary“ (Altiranisches Wörterbuch).
