Deutsche Biographie

The online service "Deutsche Biographie" (German Biography) is a historical-biographical information system offering structured lexical expert knowledge on more than 730,000 persons from all areas of public life in the German-speaking area. Currently (as of May 2020), it includes digital full texts of about 50,000 historical-biographical articles of the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie (ADB, General German Biography, 56 volumes, 1875–1912) and of the Neue Deutsche Biographie (NDB, New German Biography, so far 25 volumes online, since 1953, Aachen to Tecklenborg) as well as online services of

the Federal Archives (including the Central Database of Estates, Picture Archive, editions such as files of the Reich Chancellery, Weimar Republic and Cabinet Minutes of the Federal Government),
the German Literature Archive Marbach (Kallías),
the German Documentation Centre for Art History (Image Archives Marburg with image index of art and architecture, digital portrait index, Manuscripta Mediaevalia),
the Germanisches Nationalmuseum (object catalogue, German Art Archive, Galerie Heinemann online),
the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz (Regesta Imperii, Research Centre for Personalschriften, Controversia & Confessio),
the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (Annual Reports on German History),
the Berlin State Library - Prussian Cultural Heritage (Kalliope Union),
the German Broadcasting Archive,
the Deutsches Museum (German Museum),
the Centre for Historical Peace Research at the University of Bonn (Acta Pacis Westphalicae),
the Regional Information System for Baden-Wuerttemberg,
the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich (matriculation books),
the Saxon State and University Library Dresden (German Photographic Collection) and
the Deutsches Filminstitut und Filmmuseum (filmportal.de).

Funded by the German Research Foundation, the "Deutsche Biographie" is jointly managed by the Historical Commission at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities and the Bavarian State Library since 2002.
