The encyclopedia presents bio-bibliographical articles on all important German-speaking authors from the Middle Ages to the present day. It provides comprehensive information on the life and work of each author, making it easy to place them in their contemporary and literary historical context. The Killy not only covers the greatest and most important authors of each era, but also journalists, scriptwriters, literary scholars and specialist writers. The articles offer a summary of biography, contemporary historical context and oeuvre. In comparison to the first edition of "Killy", published by Wissen Media Verlag from 1988 to 1993, the completely revised and revised second edition by de Gruyter added an average of more than 70 new articles per volume. The majority of the new author entries concern the 20th century and the present, but the less well-researched work of productive writers from the 19th century, the groups of the radical Enlightenment and Counter-Enlightenment, the prose writers of the 16th to 18th centuries, the scholarly culture of the early modern period and the late medieval short epics have also been newly added.
